Reiki at a Group Foster Home

In 2015 Lawrence Hall celebrated 150 years of serving Chicago's at-risk youth. Providing foster care and numerous community-based programs is challenging work, so this organization has implemented series of care programs to support the staff and leadership. Our reiki visit followed a four-week introduction to yoga.

As we settled into a corner meeting room with a skylight, people who had signed up for 10-minute reiki sessions filtered in and received what was for most, a very first reiki experience. We received a variety of feedback, and had one or two recipients return later with a coworker in tow so they could try it, too. There was a bit of a lull, then the room next door opened, and people emerged from their training there a bit dazed and traumatized. They were spending their morning learning how to restrain violent youth. Our presence was more than welcome as they sat down to receive reiki and release some of the stress of that experience.

We're hoping for an opportunity to work with the youth in the shelter, as they also are having a tough time.
