Reiki for the CPD's 8th District

While we’ve made our way around to various districts throughout the CPD, somehow the 8th has eluded us, until now.

Favorite post-reiki comment from the event,

“I came in open-minded, but this exceeded my expectations.
I feel better than I thought I would.”

Joanna is always eager to take a day off work to offer reiki to the CPD. “A lot of my friends are cops, and I know it’s stressful for them—especially now.”

Jana, one of our newest volunteers, admitted to being a bit intimidated around all the guns. “This is different than working on social workers; that’s an environment I’m more familiar with.”

While we were waiting for our first reiki recipients, we got news there had been a shooting nearby with twelve rounds fired—at 1pm. Policing in Chicago is not for the faint of heart.

We were grateful for support from our contact in community policing, and from the top brass at the station. While the CPD’s culture has traditionally been a more closed dynamic, recently they have been open to trying new ways to deal with on-the-job stress. New recruits are being exposed to (and benefitting from) self-care practices commonly sought out in the general population. This will benefit everyone.

“You can come back any time!” we were told on our way out.
