Reiki for Northwestern Memorial ER Nurses

The pandemic has been especially difficult for ER staff who have had to risk their lives while working overtime, to say nothing of the psychological challenges of interacting with many people who could not be saved.

After being sidelined during the lockdown, we were happy for the opportunity to show support to this group of nurses (and a couple EMTs) who took advantage of our services.

We were able to introduce ourselves and reiki at the pre-shift huddle on both Monday and Wednesday, and set up in the nurse’s lounge to offer sessions.

Both the day shift and the night shift were busy. Still, several open-minded folks came in to give reiki a try. The feedback was wonderful and there was gratitude around for the chance to connect.

There were some skeptics as well, as is to be expected. I had printed out the Northwestern Medicine website page outlining the energy medicine service they offer and its benefits to let them know their own employer acknowledges the value of reiki.

Thanks to Gina Israel and Monique Costello for helping bring the love to the NW ER nursing staff.
