Reiki at Chicago's 9-1-1 Call Center

Favorite feedback: "Free, amazing, cleansed. Very great experience. Will be back.”

Suppose you have a catastrophic event in your life and need to call 9-1-1. The person on the other end of the phone is your lifeline, dispatching a response team to your location, providing you with critical instructions and moral support in these critical moments. It’s not difficult to imagine yourself in this situation, panicked, possibly in pain, cortisol surging through your body, fully dependent on the knowledge, experience, and calm of the person on the other end of the phone.

Have you ever considered what it’s like to be the 9-1-1 dispatcher receiving the calls all day, every day? Their mental health can be jeopardized by the trauma that they witness day in and day out. Compromised mental health could compromise their ability to respond optimally to your emergency. I think we can all agree the wellbeing and resilience of these people should be a top priority.

As part of the wellness initiatives put in place by Gwen Tsuji-Chevas, we were able to offer 10-minute Reiki sessions to 26 members of this vital operation. The results of their sessions are below. We hope to continue this relationship with OEMC to support the life-saving work they do for our city.

Thank you to Mike, Liz, and Mary for their tireless service to our mission: to promote peace within individuals, communities, and society as a whole via Reiki energy healing.
